Continuous Confidence Across the Organization
Often, when we think about our release process, we think primarily about the core product we deliver. We ponder on how we can deliver better, faster, and with quality. There is, however, other parts of the software business that need to improve as well. There are other deliverables that, when we take the time to understand and focus on, we can gain greater insight into confidence culture wide.
Sales
When we think about the Sales organization, how can we implement Continuous Confidence there? Well, notice that for a certain period of time, we spend a lot of time and effort training people to sell the product. We spend a lot of time focusing on how to answer questions and how to pitch the deal. May we in addition focus on the confidence of the deal? Do we focus on them having confidence and a solid relationship? Do we take the time to care about the other person? Do we genuinely seek to know why we didn't win the sale?
Often sales fail because people don't have confidence in who we are or in what we can do. We focus on telling people what we can do, and how we can fit into their lives, but we don't show them who we are. We don't gain the relationship of confidence. They are quite confident that we can sell stuff, but to be truly successful we need to measure our successes and failures in terms of confidence. Once that happens, Continuous Confidence becomes a real thing.
Marketing
Marketing is a unique entity. Often when we think about marketing, we are expecting them to gain a person's trust and yet, constantly we find a drive to emotionally manipulate the consumer to drive them to be interested in whatever we have to sell. If, instead, we focus on Continuous Confidence, we would drive to focus on establishing confidence with the consumer. We would focus on empathy for the situations people are in. We would focus on why does a specific marketing piece fail. What about it, does or doesn't establish confidence with people? Are consumers confident that we sell stuff, or are they confident that we care?
It's All About Relationships
Within the world of Continuous Confidence, it all the relationship. We need to gain the trust of everyone. We can never gain confidence and trust by focusing on what we have to offer. We need to focus on what we need to do to help. We need to focus on the other person instead of ourselves.
